I was working on a blog about Carmen Allison who was voted one of Nashville's best hair stylists when I came across this professional group of belly dancers at the MAC AIDS benefit at the Exit/In. (Carmen is the one responsible for all the hair on these dancers!) I was so impressed by their performance and style, I ran back stage and got the interview you see in the video. The sound from the interview leaves a lot to be desired, for I was only using my camera mic, but I hope it gives you an idea about how well these dancers work together both on and off the stage.
Bodhicitta Bellydance is a group of five dancers who have been performing professionally around Nashville since January 2007. It was started by Gwyn Lister, the director of the troupe, who wanted to approach the ancient art of belly dance with a modern perspective. Bodhicitta is currently Cheryl, Maggie, Stephanie and Kimberly who have been dancing with Gwyn from 8 months to 3 years. In addition, they invite guest dancers to join them on occation. Their vibe and energy on stage is very contagious, as you can hear in the background from the almost full house during my taping of their show.
As I hope my footage gives some justice, Bodhicitta puts a lot into their music, choreography and styling. Each show is made up of 3 acts with a total of 12 to 13 original pieces, each with its own music, style and fashioning. You will not want to miss their next performance January 10, 2009 at the Exit/In. You can find additional information at www.myspace.com/bodhicittagwyn.

Where You Gonna' Get Your Nachos?
It looks like the woman who popularized the...meal...snack...appetizer called nachos has died. To celebrate this woman's life, local DJ, Pimp Daddy Supreme, has started a year-long search for the best Nashville nacho. Promote Nashville went along one night back in October to get a taste of what goes on when testing nacho excellence. There was a lot more to it than we thought, so we will let the video do the talking on how erudite this endeavor can get... But totally in a good way, not a Shia LaBeouf way!

Under World
Kaz Hishida worked with his father to produce one of Nashville's best restaurants, but it came to an end this summer. We cornered Kaz one evening and were able to get some insights into his new MICRO DEN called Under World on West End smack in the middle of Vanderbilt University. Every Saturday is Sanctuary, the Halloween edition is the one we caught on tape for you to enjoy and maybe see yourself. Find out more about Under World at: Under World
The sound is not the best, so turn it up if you need.

Updates are in the works
This week has been interesting to say the least. Jake was called to jury duty Monday and ended getting seated on a civil case. It is over now, but we have not had a lot of time to do much thus far this week to start new videos. We have put together a video with some sneak peaks into future blog entries being worked on as we speak. The goal is to have a new video up by Monday of next week. It depends on editing, but I am pretty sure it will be the Halloween party from a micro den called Under World. Be very excited like we are, for there are a lot of great feature blogs we are working on.
Well, we hope you enjoy everything we have in store for you! AND... As always, please send us your suggestions and comments. WE LOVE THEM!

Funky Good Time
Once a month Nashville introduces funk, soul and some R&B into the music city club mix. Sure, there are plenty of places to listen to these great genres around town, but none like Funky Good Time. You are sure to hear the best ever produced including some I swear you will NEVER hear anywhere else. Included in the night, you will certainly hear some bits and pieces of you current favorites. Remember, a lot of the current pop/top 40 charts are infused with remixes and beats from what you hear at this night.
Funky good time is a DJ night at Cabana which occurs the last Thursday of EVERY month. The place is always packed and actually outgrew its first location at the Boundr'y. The larger dance floor allows all sorts of dancing, including local beat boys and break-dancers. It is probably the best place to consistently witness these folks do their thing.
October 30, I was there to document some Funky Good Times. The video below is a brief interview with one of the creators of the night, Case, with some footage of the DJs, some dancing and all the happy faces you'll see at FGT. The next one is November27 and starts, as always, at 10pm. Cabana has some great late night food and the bartenders are all great if you treat them right!
Oh! And it is FREE! Can't beat it! No pun intended...
